TRAINING institute run by Wyndham City councillor and Labor Party activist Intaj Khan has been fined for misuse of the 457 visa program.

The Western Institute of Technology, founded by Mr Khan in 2008, has been fined $10,200 and barred from using the 457 skilled worker visa program for three years.

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection says the institute, of which Mr Khan is CEO, breached a range of sponsorship conditions, including by mistreating two sponsored workers who were forced to repay part of their annual earnings.

The department said an investigation lasting several months determined that “a training organisation forced two 457 visa holders to repay part of their guaranteed annual earnings, provided misleading information and failed to pay a sponsored worker their return travel costs within the required time frame”.

Mr Khan told the Herald Sun he had no comment.

      After one year 457 visa holders should be invited for permanent residence otherwise they should be asked to leave the country. Because every year their insecurity is increased due to the fact that they are temporary residents and can’t speak much.
